Annapurna I

Annapurna is a mountain situated in the Annapurna mountain range of Gandaki Province, north-central Nepal. It is the 10th highest mountain in the world at 8,091 metres (26,545 ft) above sea level and is well known for the difficulty and danger involved in its ascent.

About Annapurna I

Annapurna I is a 8,091-metre mountain at the western end of Nepal’s Annapurna massif, which lies along a ridge east of the Gandaki River. The French climbers Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal made its first ascent on 3 June 1950, making it the first 8,000-metre peak successfully climbed.

Routes and approaches

The 1950 reconnaissance identified the Miristi-Khola as the key approach to Annapurna, and the expedition reported that the glacier route on the northern side was the practicable line among the routes considered.
