About Jungfrau
Jungfrau is one of the principal summits of the Bernese Alps, rising above the Jungfraujoch and the upper Aletsch glacier system.
The normal route approaches from the Jungfraujoch or the Mönchsjoch Hut, crosses glaciated terrain and reaches the summit by the Rottalsattel and south-east ridge.
Notable ascents
- 1811 — South side: Johann Rudolf Meyer, Hieronymus Meyer and guides made the first ascent from the south.
- 1865 — North-east ridge: The north-east ridge was first climbed by guides from the Jungfraujoch side.
Routes and approaches
The Jungfrau normal route is a glaciated alpine undertaking. Crevasses, avalanche exposure and the summit ridge require current conditions and appropriate skills.
These records come from the existing route API; metrics and geometry are not invented.
