A limestone and granite peak above Grindelwald, famed for its steep north face.
Bernese Alps · Bern · Switzerland · 3,967 m

About Eiger
The Eiger rises above Grindelwald and the railway corridor to Jungfraujoch, with a dramatic north face and a glaciated summit ridge.
The Mittellegi Ridge is the classic route from the east. The north face is a major alpine undertaking, while the west flank and south ridge connect the summit to the high Bernese Alps.
Notable ascents
- 1858 — West flank: Charles Barrington, Christian Almer and Peter Bohren made the first ascent from the west.
- 1938 — North face: Anderl Heckmair, Heinrich Harrer, Ludwig Vörg and Fritz Kasparek made the first complete ascent of the north face.
Routes and approaches
The Eiger’s classic lines are serious alpine routes. Rockfall, ice, weather and retreat options must be assessed in current conditions.
These records come from the existing route API; metrics and geometry are not invented.
