Move your mountain library

Bring a Komoot route into Traverse in a few taps.

Komoot exports one saved route or completed activity at a time. Once the GPX is on your iPhone, share it straight to Traverse and continue planning around the terrain.

The short answer

Open the route in Komoot, choose Download GPX file, then share the downloaded file to Import to Traverse. Komoot currently documents one route or activity per export, so use the web Atlas when you need to collect several GPX files.

Export one Komoot route

  1. Open Profile → Saved routes or Completed activities in Komoot.
  2. Select the route and choose Download GPX file.
  3. On iPhone, choose Open with or Share, then select Import to Traverse. On desktop, save the GPX and upload it to Atlas.
  4. Review the route and save it in Traverse.

Move several Komoot routes

  1. Repeat the Komoot export for each saved route or activity you want to keep.
  2. On the Traverse web app, choose Atlas → Import GPX.
  3. Select the GPX files together. Traverse will parse each file and let you organise the results into folders.
  4. Open a route to review elevation, gradient, terrain and planning context.

What moves across

  • Route geometry — Yes: The GPX line is kept as the imported route.
  • Waypoints added during planning — Limited: Komoot notes that GPX exports contain route geometry, not every planning object.
  • Voice navigation and Komoot maps — No: Those are app-specific and are not part of the GPX.
  • Multiple exports — Manual: Komoot currently documents one route or activity at a time.
  • Route planning context — Rebuild in Traverse: Add terrain layers, weather, waypoints and a trip plan after import.

A route file is the bridge

Komoot is built around route discovery, navigation and a broad device ecosystem. Traverse is built around the mountain decision around the route: terrain, hazards, glacier and snow context, conditions, plans and offline work.

Use the imported route as a starting point

Keep the original geometry, then inspect it against slope angle, aspect, elevation bands and recent imagery before you commit to a line.

Frequently asked questions

Can Komoot export all routes at once?

Komoot's current support article says only one route or activity can be imported or exported at a time. Export the routes you need, then select them together in Traverse's web importer.

Does the Komoot GPX include waypoints?

Komoot states that GPX exports include route geometry, but waypoints added during planning, voice navigation and Komoot maps are not included.

Is GPX import included in Traverse Free?

GPX import is currently a Pro feature. Keep the requirement visible in the migration flow.
