Take an AllTrails route into deeper mountain planning.

AllTrails can export activities, custom routes and trail routes in GPX and other formats. Download the route, choose Import to Traverse, and keep the line while adding serious terrain context.

The short answer

From an AllTrails activity, custom route or trail page, choose the download or export route-file action and select GPX. On iPhone, share the file to Import to Traverse; on the web, upload it through Atlas.

Export one AllTrails route

  1. Open the activity, custom route, or trail page in AllTrails.
  2. Open the three-dot menu and choose Download route, Export route file, or Export map file, depending on the page.
  3. Select GPX Route or GPX Track, then choose Import to Traverse from the iPhone share sheet.
  4. Review the route in Traverse and add it to Atlas or a trip plan.

Move several AllTrails routes

  1. Download each AllTrails activity or custom route you want to keep as GPX.
  2. Open Traverse on the web and choose Atlas → Import GPX.
  3. Select the files together and use the import organiser to create a folder for the collection.
  4. Use Traverse's 3D terrain and route analysis to decide which lines are worth keeping.

What moves across

  • Route or activity geometry — Yes: The GPX line is imported as a route or track.
  • Trail photos and reviews — No: Those belong to the AllTrails trail page and are not part of GPX.
  • Route file format — Yes: AllTrails offers GPX Route and GPX Track among its export formats.
  • Several routes at once — Manual: Download the files individually, then upload them together in Traverse web.
  • Trail metadata — Limited: Rebuild mountain-specific notes, waypoints and plans in Traverse.

From trail catalogue to terrain decision

AllTrails is useful for finding established trails and community information. Traverse keeps the imported line but adds an alpine planning workspace with 3D terrain, slope, aspect, weather, hazards, snow and glacier context.

Do not stop at the imported line

Check the route's steepest sections, elevation profile, weather at altitude and offline coverage. If the line crosses complex terrain, add waypoints for cruxes, huts and decision points.
