About Gran Paradiso
Gran Paradiso is a broad glaciated summit in the Graian Alps, protected by Gran Paradiso National Park.
The normal route is commonly approached from the Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II or Rifugio Chabod. The upper mountain is glacier terrain followed by a rocky summit ridge.
Notable ascents
- 1860 — North-west route: John Cowell and W. Dundas with guides J. Payot and J. Tairraz made the first ascent.
- 1860 — Summit ridge: The first party reached the summit ridge from the north-west side in September 1860.
Routes and approaches
Gran Paradiso is a popular introductory 4,000-metre objective, but the glacier and summit ridge remain serious alpine terrain.
These records come from the existing route API; metrics and geometry are not invented.
