Traverse for Professionals: built for the people who take others into the mountains

Plan multi-day trips the way you were trained to, send your guests one link, and carry the plan on every screen. Verified guides, leaders and instructors get Traverse Pro free. Apply for free Pro.

Why is this free? What’s the catch?

No catch. Pedro Marques, who builds Traverse, has been building software for more than 20 years and has been guided in the mountains many times. Guides are the ambassadors of the places we go, and everything he has learned in the mountains he owes to professionals like them. Traverse gives guides better tools, and asks for their help making them even better.

What guides get

  • Traverse Pro, free: everything in the Alpine Pack with no card and no end date
  • Swag and equipment in the post
  • A feature on Traverse social media
  • An invitation to a private channel with the Traverse team and other guides
  • A referral programme that rewards you for bringing new people to Traverse

In return we ask for photos from your days out, a testimonial and your honest feedback.

The tools

  • Multi-day plans with routes, huts and waypoints per day and an hour-by-hour weather window
  • Day contracts: objective, viable-if conditions, timed checkpoints with fallbacks, turnaround time and Plan B
  • Checklists that hold booking, permit and insurance documents
  • Share links guests open in any browser with no app or account, carrying your name and photo
  • PDF route cards modelled on the SAC tour-planning form and Mountaineering Scotland route cards

See them for real: a live shared plan and its route card (PDF).

  • Slope angle, aspect, avalanche bulletins, SnowSight snow cover and GlacierIQ on 3D terrain and 31 official national maps, offline on iPhone and iPad

Built around how guides are trained

Traverse follows the Swiss Alpine Club tour-planning sequence: objective, information, conditions, key sections, viable-if conditions, time plan, alternatives, final check and reassessment on the move.

Who qualifies

IFMGA / UIAGM mountain guides and aspirants and national association members, International Mountain Leaders and other mountain leaders, climbing, ski and avalanche instructors, mountain rescue and ski patrol, and trainees on a recognised guide or leader scheme.
